¿Has visto a mi hermana Evelyn?

Evelyn Evelyn son unas hermanas siamesas, con un difícil y turbulento pasado, y muy tímidas a pesar de su enorme talento para la música.

 Se rumorea que en realidad las hermanas no existen, sino que son el proyecto de Amanda Palmer y Jason Webley, los cuales darían vida a las hermanas actuando en conjunto.

Yo no me lo acabo de creer...

El patrón es Evelyn Evelyn by Helen Apocalypse (Ravelry). Poner las piernas en su sitio requiere de un poco de destreza (yo elegí coserlas en lugar de cerrarlas con puntos) pero el resultado es muy bonito.

Reconozco que no sabía cual era este personaje cuando me decidí a hacerlo, así que como no tenía el color azul para su uniforme, lo hice de color verde.

 

Bueno... Digamos que son del mismo planeta: unos son del ejército del aire y el mío es del ejército de tierra.

Fresa y Nata

Hace mucho tiempo que tenía este patrón - Chromium Star Blanket by Laura Lynn Hanks - visto en Ravelry y había intentado empezarlo muchas veces, pero nunca lograba hacer bien el centro, la primera estrella. Hasta que una de la veces me dí cuenta de que estaba cometiendo un error de lo más tonto con la cuenta inicial... A partir de ahí fue sencillo, y el resultado es muy bonito y llamativo. Según los colores que se usen, se pueden lograr combinaciones espectaculares.

Changes

Hello darlings

I've been neglecting this blog a little lately, it seems... I've been busy working and crocheting, and I have a few posts coming up. I've been thinking too, about making some changes. I want to get a new look for the blog but also, and this is the difficult part, I've decided to start blogging in Spanish.

This has not been an easy decision to make, and I'm not sure yet it's going to be the best for me, meaning, I don't know if I'll be totally comfortable, or if I'll still make entries in English.

You may be wondering why this is a difficult decision for me. The reason is I love the English language and it is not hard for me to express myself in English, even though it is not my native language. When I'm on the internet, I mostly go around using English. It's the most commonly used language, so you can easily communicate with people all over the world. There is also a lot more information available in English. If you make a Google search in Spanish, you don't get as much information. Of course I understand that if Spanish speaking people choose to blog in English, just like I do, then there are never going to be many sites in Spanish. Believe it or not, sometimes I feel guilty about this, like I'm betraying my own language.

But what has pushed me to finally make this decision is the fact that my hobby (that it's not a business, not yet at least, since I have people nagging me every day to buy stuff from me and I'm afraid one day I'll just cave in...) has become a thing that I share strongly with family, friends and people around me, locally, in my community. Many of them can't speak English so they can't really enjoy my blog. And that saddens me.

So... Those are my reasons and I'm going to make the switch.

To the ones who can only read my blog in English, just have no doubt that I cherish you and I'm so grateful that you follow or visit my blog! Since mostly every pattern I try is in English, you can still benefit from the links and the photos. You are most welcome to visit and comment in English, and if translators fail (and they will!) and you would like to have any particular thing explained to you in English, I'll be more than happy to help.

Es muy bonito y fácil de hacer, aunque es mucho más grande de lo que esperaba, así que por ahora nos los haré todos.

¡Hoy les traigo comida!



Comida para ver y no comer. El patrón es No Sew Amigurumi Hamburger with Cheese by Emjay Bailey (Ravelry link).

¡Es una monada! Con este patrón no es necesario coser ninguna parte, se hace todo del tirón. Yo hubiera añadido una vuelta más de color rojo para que se viera un poco más el tomate. Cometí un error (oops) y se me olvidó cambiar al blanco de nuevo para hacer la parte interior del pan en la última rebanada.

Today I bring you food! Food for cuteness sake, because you can't really eat this one up. The pattern is No Sew Amigurumi Hamburger with Cheese by Emjay Bailey (you can also take it from Ravelry). It is so cute! Like it says, you don't need to sew parts with this pattern, it's all done in one piece. I personally would add one more round of red to let the tomato show through a little more. I made a mistake (yikes!) and totally missed to switch back to off-white to make the inside of the bread on the bottom bun, so look out for that one. Link to photos of Flickr.

Spike attack!

Me tenía muy intrigada este diseño, Spikes All Around by Sue Usiatynski, así que me decidí a probar el patrón. Es muy fácil de hacer y sin embargo el resultado es muy llamativo. Elegí una combinación clásica de blanco, negro y gris, y le hice un asa larga para colgarlo del hombro. Este bolsito me servirá como regalo de cumpleaños.




Seguro que usaré este diseño más adelante en alguna muñeca, creo que quedaría genial en alguna ropita.

I was very intrigued by this design, Spikes All Around by Sue Usiatynski, so I decided to try the pattern. It is very easy to make and the resulting effect is amazing. Everybody loved it! I went for a classic white-black-grey combination and I made a shoulder strap instead of handles. And now the purse will serve as nice birthday present! I'll definitely try this spike effect on some doll at some point, I think it would look great on any piece of clothing. Link to Flickr set.

Sunday Sunday

¡Hola chic@s, cuánto tiempo sin escribir! No es que haya estado de brazos cruzados, es sólo que a veces los proyectos no salen como una esperaba...

Siempre he querido hacer los elementos de una casa de muñecas en crochet. Tengo en cola varios patrones en Ravelry: un teléfono, un televisor, un reloj, la ropa colgada para secar, un sofá, una butaca,...

Me decidí a empezar con el sofá y la butaca. Terminé todas las piezas pero a la hora de coserlas y rellenarlas no me he quedado muy satisfecha con el resultado.

Así que nada de fotos por ahora, y el proyecto queda oficialmente congelado (otra vez).

Hi kiddos! Long time no post! I haven't been idle though, it's just that sometimes projects don't turn out the way you expected them to... I've always wanted to crochet items for a doll house. I have queued several patterns on Ravelry: a telephone, a tv, a clock, a line of clothes hung out to dry, a sofa, a chair. I decided to try the sofa and chair patterns. I've finished all the elements but the sewing and building up part is proving challenging and I'm not enjoying the results. So no photos for now, and the whole project is officially hibernating (again). Boo!

Funda Arcoiris para el Kindle

A veces encuentro trabajos y patrones en crochet que me encantan pero que nunca me decidiría a hacer, como por ejemplo una manta. Eso es justo lo que me pasaba con esta preciosa manta hecha por Michelle Tang (pueden encontrar el patrón en el blog greetingarts.typepad.com y en Ravelry).

Pero quería probar este efecto ondulado, así que hice algo más pequeño: una funda para el Kindle. Es muy fácil y se trabaja bastante rápido. Si pruebas con una manta, es el proyecto perfecto para las noches frías frente al televisor o escuchando la radio.




Usé 7 colores como en un arcoiris, haciendo 2 filas de cada color con una aguja de 4 mm. El patrón trabaja sobre múltiplos de 14 puntos. Hice una cadena base de 6x14 puntos, más 3 puntos para la cadena de vuelta. Al terminar doblé por la mitad el trabajo igualando los bordes ondulados, y los uní con puntos bajos.

 * Sometimes I find crochet items and patterns that I love but would hardly ever crochet myself, such as a blanket. That's what happened with this gorgeous blanket made by Michelle Tang (you may find the pattern at greetingarts.typepad.com and Ravelry). But I still wanted to try the ripple effect, so I made something smaller: a Kindle cover! It is very easy and it works up really fast. If you're going to make a blanket it is the perfect project for cold nights in front of the tv or listening to the radio. I used 7 colours in a rainbow fashion, making 2 rows of each colour using a 4mm size hook. The pattern works in multiples of 14 stitches. I made a starting chain of 6x14 plus 3 extra for the turning chain. Then I matched up the rippling sides and single-crocheted through both sides, stitching them together. And voilá! Noticias de Catalina

Hace unos días salí a comer con mi madre y mi tía. Hice a Catalina como regalo para mi tía, así que aproveché para darle la muñeca y estaba encantada. Tanto que mientras caminábamos por el paseo en la playa la llevaba en las manos, en lugar de en la bolsa que le había dado, atrayendo algunas miradas por el camino. :-)

Más tarde la dejó sobre la mesa mientras tomábamos un café y una señora y su hija vinieron a preguntar por ella, si era de crochet, quién la había hecho... ¡Buen principio para Catalina!

A few days ago I went out for lunch with my mother and aunt. I had made Catalina for my aunt so I gave her the doll and she was thrilled. So thrilled in fact that while we went walking around the beach boulevard she carried the doll in her hands, instead of in the bag I had given her in, attracting quite a few looks in the process. :-) Later she put it on the table while we were having coffee and another lady and her daughter came by asking for the doll, wanting to know if it was crochet, who had made it... That was an interesting start for Catalina!

Catalina

Catalina está terminada y ¡lista para dar un paseo! Otra muñeca más, basada en el patrón Strawbeary de Beth Doherty en el libro Amigurumi! Super Happy Crochet Cute. Hace tiempo que deseaba hacer alguna muñeca con ropitas de tela, aunque mis habilidades para coser son prácticamente nulas y tengo muy poca paciencia para el fino arte de la costura. Pero tenía que probar así que improvisé esta faldita.




Hay un trillón de cosas que se podrían mejorar en esta falda, (mi madre, que fue costurera profesional, ya me ha dado algunos consejos y algo de crítica constructiva) pero aún así, no está tan mal hecha, ¿no? ;-)

 Catalina is all done and ready to go for a walk! One more doll based on the pattern Strawbeary by Beth Doherty in the book Amigurumi! Super Happy Crochet Cute. I've long wanted to dress one of my dolls with fabric clothes, even though I have rudimentary sewing skills at best and very little patience for the fine work of sewing. But I had to scratch that itch and so I kind of improvised this skirt. A trillion things could have been done better with this skirt (my mother, a seasoned pro at sewing, has already provided some constructive criticism and tips) but still, it doesn't look too bad, does it? ;-) More photos over at Flickr.

Se terminaron las vacaciones

Desde que empecé a hacer amigurumi, allá por mayo de 2010, he estado haciendo muñequitos como una posesa. Decidí relajarme un poco y tomarme agosto de vacaciones. Bueno, no del todo, porque he ido haciendo estas cositas... No me atrevía a dejarlo de sopetón...




Ahora septiembre ya está aquí y es tiempo de volver al trabajo. Hilos por toda la casa, lo echo de menos, todo parecía tan ordenado... ¿Y saben qué? De repente me siento feliz. Como si necesitara otra prueba, esto es lo que he aprendido de mi descanso:

Este patrón es de Emjay Bailey y pueden encontrarlo en el blog Nerdigurumi. Es muy versátil, fácil, rápido y divertido de hacer, y son monísimos. Creo que estos harán muy felices a unos cuantos por aquí.

Since I started making amigurumi, back in May 2010, I've been crocheting toys and dolls in this kind of manic frenzy. I decided to lay low for a while and kinda took August off. Not off-off, since I've been lazily making these cuties - I didn't dare to cut cold my habit, you see... Now September is here and it's time to get back to work, I thought. Yarn everywhere around the house, I miss that, everything seemed too tidy. And you know what? All of a sudden I felt so happy! As if I needed further proof, this much I've learned from my hiatus: I Love Making Crochet & Amigurumi! This is a pattern by Emjay Bailey and you can find it at Nerdigurumi. It is very versatile, easy, quick and fun to make, and they are really cute. I know these will make a few little and grown-up kids very happy around here! More photos over at Flickr.

Petunia

Encontré el patrón para hacer esta muñeca, Kuklena by Larisa Glinchak, curioseando entre los patrones disponibles en Ravelry (actividad que recomiendo) y me llamó mucho la atención esa cara. Me decidí a intentarlo aunque el patrón está escrito en ruso (la diseñadora ha incluido indicaciones de ayuda) y además usa hilo más fino del que yo trabajo habitualmente.

Y este es el resultado: ¡saluden a Petunia!




Se pueden aprender unas cuantas técnicas y trucos en este patrón. Las instrucciones indican que hay que rellenar, cerrar y dar forma a la cabeza para finalmente pegar los ojos. Yo usé ojos de seguridad así que los puse antes de cerrar y dar forma. Creo que funcionó de todas maneras, estoy contenta con el resultado, aunque no me salieron del todo bien los hoyitos de la barbilla. La nariz es adorable. En lugar de bordar los rasgos faciales, la terminé con unos sencillos toques de maquillaje.




Estoy encantada con el vestido, quedó muy bonito aunque lo hice con hilo grueso.




Tiene una ropita interior a todo color y para que se la vean...




Le puse una cantidad exagerada de pelo, como siempre, me dejo llevar… Después se lo recorté y no hice una trenza, sino que le puse una pequeña trenza en la frente. Usé este patrón para hacer la flor de su pelo, e improvisé un pequeño adorno para sus zapatos.




Petunia ya fue adoptada por mi madre. Fue amor a primera vista para ella, y ¿quién puede decirle NO a su mamá?

I saw the pattern for this doll, Kuklena by Larisa Glinchak, while browsing around Ravelry (a regular activity that I do recommend) and I got really curious about that face. I decided to give it a try despite the pattern being written in Russian (there is help from the designer though), and even though the pattern called for finer yarn than what I work with. And here's the result: Welcome Petunia! There are some skills and tricks to be learned from this pattern, that's for sure! If you follow the pattern you are instructed to stuff, close and shape the head before you stick on the eyes. I used safety eyes so I put them on before stuffing and shaping. I think it worked, I'm happy with the results, even though I didn't get the chin hollows quite right. The nose is really lovely. Instead of embroidery, I finished it with some blush for highlights. I am pleased with the dress, it turned out so nice even though I used thick yarn! She has colourful underwear to show... I gave her an insane amount of hair, as usual, I get carried away... Later I trimmed it down and I didn't braid it, but I wrapped a braid around the front line. I used this pattern for the flower on her head, and improvised some charm for her shoes. Petunia has already been adopted by my mother. It was love a first sight for her, and how can you say NO to your mother, right? The original photos are over at Flickr.

Frankie

Como siempre ando al acecho de nuevas criaturas de hilo que pueda traer a este mundo, y teniendo gran debilidad por los parias y los oscuros (sobre todo si pueden ser de color verde “vómito”), me encantó encontrar este increíble patrón gratis realizado por Ann D'Angelo en la página Wonderstrange.com. (También está en Ravelry así que lo pueden poner en su lista si están allí). Hay más cositas fantásticas en esa página así que no dejen de visitarla.

Sin más preámbulos, ¡he aquí al Monstruo de Frankenstein!



Aquí le llamamos Frankie ...

Me encantó la idea de hacerle ojos de colores diferentes como dice el patrón pero no tenía en casa, así que le puse ojos ovalados y le hice los puntos de sutura en la cara en color negro. Para el pantalón usé gris, y le puse unos tornillos y una sonrisita descarada. Los tornillos los hice muy sencillitos:

#1- 6pb en un anillo mágico (6)
#2- 2pb en cada pb (12)
#3- Sólo en el lazo trasero, 12 pb (12)
#4- Repetir #3
#5- 2pb juntos en cada pb (6) y rematar.

Me estoy encariñando mucho con esta criatura verde enfermizo, así que no creo que vaya a irse a ninguna parte, se va a quedar en casita conmigo.

Always on the lookout for new yarn creatures that I can bring to this world, and having a penchant for the outcast and the dark ones (specially if they can be "puke green"), I was delighted to find this awesome free pattern by Ann D’Angelo over at Wonderstrange.com. (It's on Ravelry so you can queue it if you're there). There is fantastic art over there as well so be sure to check it out! Without further ado, here's Frankenstein's Monster! We call him Frankie over here... I loved the idea of the different colored eyes featured in the original pattern but I didn't have them, so I used elongated wiggle eyes and kept the stitches over the scars black. The pants went grey as I didn't have light brown, and I also added bolts and a smirk on the head. The simple bolts I made are:

#1- 6sc in magic ring (6)

#2- 2sc in each sc around (12)

#3- Back loop only, sc around (12)

#4- Repeat #3

#5- 2sc together around (6) and finish off.

I'm becoming increasingly attached to this sick green baby so I'm not sure he's going anywhere just right now... A few more photos over at Flickr.

Cuando terminas de hacer muñecas para tus primitas, le llega el turno a los niños.



El patrón es The Dread Pirate Sam, disponible gratis en www.crochetme.com (requiere crear una cuenta). También pueden ponerlo en la lista en Ravelry. Adapté el patrón a mis gustos y los hilos que tenía disponibles.

Creo que le hace falta una espada, pero no he encontrado ninguna que le sirva. Algunas amigas han prometido buscarme alguna entre los juguetes de sus hijos, a ver si le encontramos una. O una jarra de cerveza. ;-)

When you are finished making dolls for your little girlie cousins, it's time to make something for the boys. The pattern I used is The Dread Pirate Sam, available free at www.crochetme.com (requires sign up). You can find it over at ravelry.com. I adapted the pattern to my taste and yarn stock. He is still missing a sword, which I haven't been able to find yet. Some friends have promised to look into their kids old toys and see if we can find him one. Aquí tenemos otro coche, para otro niño. (Algo que he aprendido cuando haces un juguete para un niño, es que SIEMPRE hay “otro niño” que tiene que tener su juguete, porque claro, ya le hiciste uno al primero y cómo es posible que no le vayas a hacer uno al otro niño... No se acaba nunca…) ;-)

Here's another car, for yet another child. (One thing I've learned is there's is ALWAYS "another child", who has to get a toy because you already gave a toy to one child, and how are you possibly not going to give this other child a toy too, right?
